Siphon Your Sinuses for Allergy Relief

By Julie Donnelly, LMT

Congested sinuses are an annoying part of Spring for millions of people around the world. For others, sinus congestion is almost a part of life, and interrupts their everyday existence, even causing painful infected sinuses and possible surgery.

Fortunately there is a self–treatment that often brings immediate relief to sufferers, and can also be adjusted so people can help others who are in distress. The goal this treatment is to set up a siphon response in the sinuses, and this is done be focused pressure on the bones that surround the sinuses.

The sinus cavities are next to our nose, under our eyes, and also above our eyes in the area of the front of the forehead. When the sinus cavities fill they give pressure that feels like someone has put a tight band on your head.

While it´s wonderful to have someone do the treatments for you, first we´ll begin with you treating yourself so you´ll be able to get relief as quickly as possible.

Sit up straight, or lean your head slightly back. Using your three fingertips, place your "fingerprints" onto your teeth, and press up on your cheekbone moving up toward your eyes. Do this slowly, and then release the pressure slowly, to the count of five. Then move your finger tips more toward your nose, still having your fingerprints on your teeth so you are pressing up into the bone. If you are in considerable pain, only do one side of your face at a time.

To work on another person, place your flat fingers on their teeth and press up on their cheekbone, moving slowly and only pressing on one side at a time. Start out toward the outer border of the cheekbone and then work in toward the nose to get the most benefit from the treatment. Continue the siphoning for several times, always moving slowly in both directions as if it "squeeze" the sinuses.

To release the congestion in the sinuses over the eye, place the curve of your palm on the forehead over one eye, and the curve of your opposite hand diagonally across on the back of the head. Lift your elbows up and slowly push your palms together gently. Do this several times and then reverse your hands so you work on the opposite frontal sinuses.

This treatment can be done to yourself by simply putting your own hands over your eye and back of your head and then pushing hard, as if trying to squeeze your head.

Finally, you can put your fingertips at either side of the bridge of your nose, close to your eyes and slowly press directly in toward the bone. Again, it is better to work on one side of the nose at a time.

Sinus congestion needs to be handled medically to work at preventing the problem in the first place, but this Julstro treatment should offer you some relief, and could prevent the build–up that may eventually become an infection.
