Testimonials

Hi, Julie! I come bearing good news. I am now virtually symptom free! I'm still having a bit of trouble with my IT band, but it's not due to tightness, but rather strength. It's a very small complaint, nonetheless. One of the keys to my recovery was following your protocol for the quads and adducters. My inner thigh, from the hip all the way to the knee, was LITTERED with knots. Once I worked those out while maintaining continued focus on the psoas, I had amazing improvement. My TFL is no longer tight, and I am still following your directions to make sure that I never have to deal with the insane pain again (or at least not to the same extent). I now take great pleasure in being able to do my Pilates pain free, and I look forward to going back to the gym and taking part in some swimming this year. I also plan to train to run a 5k in the summer. That's something I've always wanted to do, but couldn't for the past year or so due to this problem!

I couldn't have done this without your book. The protocol itself was very helpful, yes, but what I really found the most useful were the trigger point charts! It was just nice to be able to look up what area was causing my pain and just work it out. It made my life MUCH less stressful because even if I felt pain, I knew there was a solution. Thank you SO MUCH for this. Now I can focus on other goals in both my fitness and personal life that the chronic pain was holding me back from. I have absolutely no problem with giving you a testimonial either. Thank you!

Joel

I am 99% certain that without Julie's advice I wouldn't have made the start line and although I am still having problems with my knee (it was pain free in the race) the treatments are working as it is slowly improving (both whilst running 50 miles a week and since the marathon). I will aim to keep these stretches up whether injured or not and hopefully they will help me keep running into old age.

The Pain Free Runner should be required reading for every runner.

Having run 30 marathons and some ultramarathons in the last three years, I have incurred my share of overuse injuries.  I have read countless books on sports injuries and spent tons of money on physical therapy.  I had what some people called a crazy dream of running 100 miles, and I was training religiously for it.  During the training, I felt an excruciating pain in my knee that I had never felt before. I could barely walk. I went online and found the book, The Pain Free Runner.  Desperate as I was, I purchased it.  I have never made a better purchase in my life.  The book explained how to me how injuries originate and how I could treat them myself. I ran the Olander Park 100 mile - and I FINISHED! During the race, I used many of tips from the book about body maintenance, and that really helped me to achieve my goal. I honestly feel that The Pain Free Runner should be required reading for every runner.

Dear Julie,

I am writing you with a long overdue testimonial.  I know that you are aware of how much you have helped me, both personally and professionally, but I wanted to send you a letter for you to share as you would like to.

I will start with my personal story.  Prior to meeting you, I was experiencing SI pain and lateral thigh pain for almost one year.  A longtime runner, I was sidelined from any exercise that entire time.  I had been to six doctors, three PT's, and a chiropracter (and I am a PT myself).  I'd had

3 MRI's and 2 xrays, yet everyone was still perplexed.  I had one doctor tell me that my symptoms "didn't make sense" and another who couldn't understand why I was seeking answers if my pain did not affect my ability to work or care for my family.  I was so relieved to find you.  Your explanation of what you thought was causing my pain made so much logical sense!  After one session with you I was able to go for a run, and after a second session I was pain free and fully learned how to treat myself using your techniques.  It took some consistency in following through with the self treatments, but I soon returned to my normal exercise routines, and continue to do so  more than a year later.  A bonus: you also showed me how to treat my plantar faciitis that I had been battling for 18 months.  I no longer wear orthotics and was pain free within days of meeting you.

An added bonus that I did not expect was that it completely changed the way I look at and treat my own patients.  As a home care therapist, I did not expect to use your techniques very often, but was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was.  I have helped many patients with your treatment methods.

I recently had a patient who had chronic low back pain for 15 years.  After one treatment, and instructing him on the self treatment techniques his pain was 1-2/10 and he was thrilled!  I had a patient with a total knee replacement who awoke from surgery with severe sciatica.  She was unable to participate in any mat exercises while in rehab, and when I first saw her at

2 weeks post op she was very far behind in her progress.  After one treatment, her sciatica was gone and she was able to progress in her therapy for her knee replacement.  Another recent patient with chronic low back pain told me "you changed my life" after she was able to stop using a walker  due to the reduction of her back and sciatica pain.

Thank you so much for being so generous with your knowledge.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you have done for me, and for my patients.
